Syncing with Jottacloud

Jottacloud comes with a sync tool which I downloaded for my Mac. There is an app for Mac 10.15 or later and Windows. No Linux app yet.
The tool is very simple to use, you select the folders you want to back up and select upload and the selected files or folders are synced to the Jotta cloud.
Syncing can be automated, so whenever you make a change to a file or folder, the change is synced to the Jotta cloud.
I find the system easy to use. I have a fairly fast internet connection so it was not too long to do the initial back up.
So far I can recommend Jottacloud for photos, docs and backups and the product has made my move away from Google so much easier!
Pro Tip: Get better pricing on space through the Mobile App!

How I accidentally found a Google Drive replacement

So after looking high and low for a Google Photos replacement, which I found in Jottacloud… I accidentally also found my Google Drive replacement. Jottacloud also has a “Files” area on your account. In this area you can create folders, upload different docs and organize them. I found this to be very easy to use. But here is the most awesome part; Jottacloud includes Word and Excel! That is right! Any doc or spreadsheet can be viewed in Jottacloud and most importantly… EDITED.

I was not expecting that! So now I have been using Jottacloud to upload, store and organise my photos as well as upload, store, and edit my word docs and spreadsheets.
The price of this is very reasonable with various pricing plans located through the mobile app or online at their website. ProTip; mobile app includes more plans. Jotta also has a sync tool for backups that is available on MacOS and Windows which I will review in my next blog post.

I am making good progress in my journey to De-Google!

Replacement for Google Photos

After looking at all the alternatives – including iCloud. I settled on JottaCloud. This service seems to run well under the radar.
I am in the apple sphere with a mac min, iphone and ipad, so iCloud would *seem* like the natural choice. However, since you are not actually backing up to the cloud with iCloud, it was a non-starter. I do not need to keep 10,000 photos on my phone AND cloud. I think iCloud should be renamed to iEverywhere since, to me, it is not a cloud back-up, but in fact Everywhere taking up space on all devices. Google, for all of its faults, does this right.
I stumbled upon Jottacloud while at this site; https://european-alternatives.eu
I am glad I found it because it behaves exactly like Google Photos. I am very pleased with it. When using Google Takeout and uploading to Jotta, it was seamless. Jotta is very reasonably priced as well! I am sharing my space with my spouse and they have a seperate login and their space is private. It is hosted in Norway and that is a added plus!
I found out something else about Jotta that was a pleasant surprise and now it is not only replacing one Google service, but two! I will discuss next week in my next blog post!
